INTENTIONAL: #ONEWORD365

intentional

Welcome to 2016. I believe you are already enjoying the first week of the year.

It is a popular tradition to make resolutions every year with the idea of wanting to be a better version of ourselves. But we know that those resolutions don’t usually last into mid-year.

Rather than make resolutions for 2016, I decided to join the team of other bloggers and individuals who chose one word to focus on for the year. While praying and thinking about which word to choose, one word kept coming to mind: intentional.

Maybe it’s something about my life I need to work on, or it’s something entirely new I need to imbibe. Whatever it is, I’ll just trust God, keep an open mind and allow Him to fulfil His word in my life.

Trusting God doesn’t remove our need to work, so we don’t just fold our hands, cross our legs and bear the “I’m trusting God” tag while doing nothing with what He has made available to us.

So in 2016, I want to be INTENTIONAL.

I want to be more intentional in my relationship with God.

I want to be more intentional in Bible Reading, Bible Study, Prayer, Evangelism etc. I must make time to pray and read His words without excuse. I must be obedient, repentant and teachable. I must intentionally express gratitude in and for everything, regardless of my present situation.

I want to be more intentional in how I spend time with family and friends.

I want to be more intentional in caring for and reaching out to others and in taking care of my body.

I want to be more intentional with my business

I want to be more intentional with this blog and move from carrying posts ideas in my head, to writing them down and actually hitting ‘publish’.

I want to be more intentional in preparing for my marriage,- developing, learning skills, reading adding and materials, attending meetings and seminars that will help me better prepare for a Godly marriage.

I want to be more intentional in reading.

I want to be intentional one day at a time.

I want to live intentionally, and not let things pass by- due to overthinking, procrastination etc.

Intentional is another way of saying:

‘I want to live on purpose, live purposefully, live deliberately, without regrets..’

I want to positively frame those resolutions I made and broke year after year by focusing on just one word: Intentional.

Before I know it, that beautiful sunrise turns into a midday heat and melts into a quiet sunset. And the days all run together, and I’m left staring at an ebony black faced lady in the mirror disappointed or pleased at how the year turned out.

I know picking a word isn’t a unique idea.

In fact I’ve seen lots of bloggers who have used it over the years. I’ve heard others call it cheesy, overused and faddish.

But I believe picking just one word for the year will help me lean into things that matter and confidently walk away from the things that don’t.

My journey, if I could  predict, will be steep and challenging, full of goods and sometimes bad, and during those, there maybe times I might want to relax– thinking I have arrived; and there maybe times I might want to give up trying, become discouraged. During those times, I’ll have to intentionally pursue God, my goals and intentionally doing things that will not only benefit me. I have to peel off the scales and set my eyes solely upon God, open my heart wide, unlearn negative thoughts and crush the lies repeated by Satan.

May I never quit when the going gets tough. May I intentionally trust and completely embrace His ways.

2016 will be a great year. We have been given an empty slate, let’s intentionally make the most of this gift.

Stick around this year while we explore practical ways and how we can live intentionally for God.

How about you, dear friends? What is your focus for this Year?

If you had to choose just one word for the year, what would it be?

If you already have, what is your one word for 2016? And why did you pick it?

I love your Word for 2016 and I believe God places these words in our hearts for a reason right along with you: “But I believe picking just one word for the year will help me lean into things that matter and confidently walk away from the things that don’t.” May God bless your intentional journey this year.

    • Amen. Very true Anna, God places those words in our hearts for a reason, some of which might only become obvious in the later part of the year so it becomes of us to walk with God all the way.
      Thanks for coming around.
      Blessings to you Ma.

  • Excellent way of planning and leaving the results in God’s hand. Grace, i enjoyed getting to know you a little bit better. We both know the impact God makes in our lives and building a personal relationship with Him is crucial for our eternal lives. You shared some key ways of keeping God first. GBY my sister in Christ.

    • Amen. Thank you Walter. Those impacts have shaped my life in ways I never could have imagined.

These are excellent words. Each year, we should be better spiritually. The walk with God is a journey of growth and joy. When anyone does something righteous out of sincerity and fulfilling the will of God, then it just feels spiritually great. Also, I do find it more instructive and more enriching for people to express prayer, to evaluate life, and to follow the will of God than just follow selfishness. My focus during his year is to study more about spirituality, learn more about history, and to improve myself (and the people around me).

  • Good word. I’ve been reading other blogs and noticed many bloggers have chosen a word for 2016. I’ve never done that before but it might just be a good idea. It appears to have given you something to connect your goals to.

    • It did, in every way, allowing me to find reasons why I need to intentionally pursue my goals and my relationship with God.
It’s my first time Mary (there’s always a first time right!).. You should give it a try, but mostly allow the Lord to speak to you. He might have something He wants you to focus on and might just form your word.
      Thanks for coming around.
Wishing you an incredible week ahead.
